The Truth Shall Set You Free

Today we hear that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy of Jeremiah. Jesus makes this clear with the words “Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.” This brought excitement and hope to the people of Nazareth, along with expectations. Jesus had been performing many miracles throughout the land, just imagine how much more he would do right here in his own hometown! Clearly though this did not happen and the people want to know why. Jesus tells them the truth – that they do not believe in Him.

Ouch! Sometimes the truth hurts and we do not want to hear it, just like the people of Nazareth. It is so much easier to live in our own reality (denial?), since facing the truth calls for us to make a choice.

The truth of Jesus stands firm, does not change. It is the cross and resurrection. It is God’s pure and unfailing love. It is believing we are made in the image of God, adopted sons and daughters.

The choice is ours to look deeply within to find that truth within us and to make that choice – are we ready to follow our Lord? Come Holy Spirit and give us the courage to let go of control and become free in the Truth.
